Philanthropist Ben Roethlisberger Remains a Gridiron Legend

Few modern athletes are as attached to their home region as Ben Roethlisberger. The former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has remained linked to the Ohio AND Pennsylvania region throughout his life and career. Born in Cory-Rawson, Ohio, Ben Roethlisberger played high school and college football in Ohio before moving to Pittsburgh’s NFL franchise. The two-time Super Bowl winner remains a legend in the Ohio-Pennsylvania region and further afield for his on and off-field career.

Ben Roethlisberger focused on football in his senior year at high school, with baseball and basketball also on his radar. Despite waiting until his Findlay High School senior year to take the starting quarterback role, Roethlisberger broke almost every school record and became a sought-after college recruit.

A lack of game time at quarterback meant the staff at Miami (Ohio) College had to wait until Roethlisberger played a game before offering him a scholarship. The Miami (Ohio) staff invited the quarterback to a camp before his senior year and identified him as a future starter at the collegiate level.

Roethlisberger’s four-year career as the Miami (Ohio) starter saw him break multiple school records. His starting record led to Roethlisberger seeing scouts, head coaches, and General Managers from all 32 NFL franchises arrive at his Pro Day workout. The quarterback attracted attention from the NFL and was drafted at number 11 by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2004. Ben Roethlisberger stepped into the starting quarterback role in the second game of the 2004 season and lost his first game in the AFC Championship. Two Super Bowl victories followed as Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a period of success.

After hanging up his helmet for the last time, the multiple Pro Bowl representative has focused on the Roethlisberger Foundation. Ashley and Ben Roethlisberger are working to help families in need to find success in the future. See related link for additional information.
