Kelcy Warren Appointed to UT System Board of Regents

In addition to his work as Executive Chairman of Energy Transfer, Kelcy Warren serves on the University of Texas System Board of Regents, an appointment made by Governor Greg Abbott. The role places Warren at the governance level of one of the largest university systems in the country and reflects the kind of civic engagement he has maintained alongside his energy career.

Ties to UT-Arlington Run Deep

Warren graduated from the University of Texas-Arlington in 1978 and has remained closely connected to the school. Before his landmark 2023 gift, he had donated $4 million over 25 years in 10 separate gifts, including funding for Texas Tier One research and a graduate fellowship established in honor of his former professor Syed Qasim.

The 2023 donation, totaling $12 million, made history as the largest single gift in UTA’s history. It was directed toward building out the university’s resource and energy engineering program. Kelcy Warren said the program was designed to help meet a “critical need for highly skilled graduates who can manage energy resources” in Texas.

Other Civic Appointments

Warren was appointed to the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees in 2019 and serves on the board of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation in Dallas. He was a 2016 recipient of the Horatio Alger Award and a 2020 Laureate in the Dallas Business Hall of Fame, presented by Junior Achievement of Dallas.

Across all of these roles, Kelcy Warren has maintained a consistent presence in Texas civic life. His work at Energy Transfer provides the business foundation, but the regents appointment, foundation board roles, and philanthropic gifts together form a parallel track of public contribution that has defined his profile beyond the pipeline industry.
