In 1987, the Berliners were expecting the birth of their baby girl, Amy, from whom the company’s name is. While Rachel was on bed rest, Andy set out to find some healthy, vegetarian meals for the family, but was unsuccessful. Disappointed, he and Rachel decided to premake meals themselves.
Using a recipe from Rachel’s mother, Eleanor, a homemade pot pie was prepared by Andy and her, while Rachel slept. Although not the original intention, they soon found selling pot pies to be very popular, as others wanted healthy, grab-and-go food too, and so started Amy’s Kitchen.
Andy and Rachel were ever hard at work on the new company. Quality being top priority, they sought local farms to grow what would be organic vegetation, during a time when organic was not yet a known thing. Amy’s Kitchen and their farmers later helped lead the way in setting the national standards for organic and non-GMO. Healthier to ingest, organics also ensure sustainable farming and create a safer environment for field-working employees, all of which are the company’s top priorities: the best for their consumers, farmers, workers, and planet.
Today, they offer an incredible variety of dishes featuring tastes of countries throughout the world that have delighted vegans, allergen sufferers, and others with dietary concerns alike! Breakfast, lunch and dinner are covered, and there are even snacks and sweets. For convenience, products can be found in stores all over the country or ordered online.
Revamping the fast-food industry with quick, healthy, flavorful, and meatless foods is Amy’s Drive Thru. In under 10 years, they’ve opened five locations in California. It is the only fast-food restaurant with vegan and gluten-free options across the entire menu, even their milkshakes!
Ever with a strong focus on global impact, Amy’s Kitchen is making strong strides to take their already impressive 75% compostable or recyclable packaging to 100%. Also, they feature renewable energy at their restaurants with solar panels, reducing energy needs.
For over 35 years, the privately-held, family-owned business has never wavered in its commitment to eco-consciousness and genuine care. That truly is a lot of love.
